GW Students Save 80,400 Kilowatt-Hours of Electricity During Spring Residence Hall Eco Challenge

All of GW’s residence halls collectively saved 80,400 kwh of electric (2% of their use) and 1.5 million gallons of water (7% of their use) for the period of mid-February to mid-April in 2008 versus 2007.

Ten residence halls registered to compete; the winners are as follows:

Electric-Reduction Competition
First Place: Lafayette Hall (15% reduction)
Second Place: Madison Hall (11% reduction)

Water-Reduction Competition
First Place: Mount Vernon Campus (35% reduction)
Second Place: Potomac House (32% reduction)

Eco-Spirit Competition
First Place: Lafayette Hall (residents showed awareness and spirit, and wrote a song)
Second Place: Madison Hall (residents showed awareness and spirit)
